What is the Academic ESOL Program?
CGA’s ESOL classes are a customised pathway for ambitious students to accelerate academic English ability more quickly than traditional ESOL classes. The course content has been structured to combine practical every-day English with Academic English that will improve students’ performance in an English speaking classroom.
We use Pearson’s Wider World book series, designed for virtual learners, as well as the Pearson English Portal specifically designed for teaching ESOL online. The platform interface is translated into dozens of languages, making it easy for students and parents to understand.

Mature 12-15 year-old students looking to improve their English before entering an IG course.

INTAKE DATES
There are three intake dates when students can join ESOL classes that coincide with the start of each term: September, January and June.
Basis of what you will learn in Upper Intermediate ESOL (Level B1+)
Each level in the curriculum contains a welcome unit plus 8 more units that students will study throughout a 9-month course (or 11 weeks for the summer program). Unit topics are globally focused, culturally diverse, and designed to help students succeed in life and school. Topics include geography, history, family, food, sports, daily life, technology, biology, social studies, and more.
At this level, a language learner can:
- Understand the main ideas of a complex text such as a technical piece related to their field.
- Spontaneously interact without too much strain for either the learner or the native speaker.
- Produce a detailed text on a wide range of subjects.

World Geography & Culture
The student will be taught to use the basic skills of map reading and development, geographic technology, and the recognition of geographic themes.
Social Science
This course prepares students for the IGCSE courses in history, economics, business or any related streams.
Social Science
This course is designed to fuel discussion, inspire collaboration and develop students' ability to think critically about a range of global issues.
Personal, Social, Health & Economic
PSHE aims to provide children with the knowledge and skills to keep themselves happy, healthy and safe, as well as to prepare them for life and work.
