How This Family Turned Travel into a Real-World Education

In 2021, the Saul family made a decision that would change how they thought about home, school, and what learning could look like.

They left Asheville, North Carolina, packed up their lives, and moved into an RV. What began as a one-year plan has now stretched into four years on the road.

Since then, they have visited all 48 continental US states and travelled through Canada, exploring national parks, small towns, historic cities, and landscapes many families only see on holiday.

For them, however, this was never solely about travel. It was to create a different kind of education for their children.

From Pandemic Uncertainty to a Nomadic Lifestyle

During the covid-19 pandemic, remote work and online schooling were not part of a grand plan. They were simply necessary at the time. However, somewhere in that unexpected season, a new possibility started to take shape for the Saul family.

The inspiration for our nomadic life was the realization, during the pandemic, that remote work and remote schooling provided the key to the freedom we had always desired. The experience has shown us we could be together and educated without being tied to one location.

What began as a practical adjustment soon became a deliberate choice. They realized that learning did not have to be tied to a building or a single postcode. If work could move, and school could move, then perhaps their entire life could move with intention.

Their approach to education changed in a fundamental way.

We now prioritize experiential learning, connecting academics directly to the geology, history, and culture of the places we visit. Our educational philosophy is centered on curiosity, adaptability, and real-world application.

For the Saul family, the world became the classroom. A hike through a national park is no longer just a walk. It becomes a study in ecosystems and environmental science. Standing in a historic town sparks conversations about politics, culture, and how societies evolve.

Balancing Online High School With Life on the Road

As their daughter approached high school, the stakes felt higher. Experiential learning was powerful, but it needed to sit alongside academic rigor and a clear university pathway.

They needed a school with the flexibility to manage time zones and changing travel plans. At the same time, they wanted a globally recognized curriculum that would support university admissions.

That search led them to Crimson Global Academy.

We discovered Crimson Global Academy when we began a search for a high-quality curriculum for our daughter’s transition into high school. As a family constantly on the move, we couldn’t rely on local schools and needed an option that combined flexibility with uncompromising academic rigor.

What reassured them most was the balance between independence and accountability.

We loved that CGA allowed our daughter to have the ability to attend live classes while still giving her the freedom to learn at her own pace.

CGA’s live, teacher-led classes meant she was not learning alone. She could ask questions in real time, engage in discussions, and connect with peers across the world.

Recorded lessons and a global timetable also meant that a change in location did not mean falling behind.

In choosing an online school, two factors stood out as non-negotiable: flexibility and a rigorous curriculum. We needed flexibility to easily accommodate travel, shifting time zones, and spontaneous exploration while a rigorous curriculum was important to ensure our daughter’s education provides a reliable pathway to university admissions. CGA provided the highest level of both freedom and academic quality, making it the ultimate choice.

Growing Independence Through Online Learning

Over the past four years, the Saul family has experienced places that most students only encounter in textbooks.

At Grand Teton National Park, they paddleboarded on String Lake beneath towering peaks.

They explored the turquoise lakes and alpine landscapes of Banff National Park, and walked among the red rock formations of Zion National Park.

Constantly adapting to new places has helped their children become more resilient and open-minded, but it was the switch to online education has also strengthened something more personal.

Our child has truly excelled in the online learning environment. The greatest benefit has been the growth in her personal responsibility and self-motivation. It has given her a crucial sense of independence and allowed her to take active control of her own education. She is now managing her schedule and engaging with the material at a deeper level, transforming her into a resilient and self-directed learner.

The Saul family’s lifestyle may be unique, but their priorities are shared by many parents. Academic rigor, flexibility, and a globally recognized qualification.

CGA is a community that supports both achievement and wellbeing.
