In the AP English Literature course, students will learn how to understand and evaluate works of fiction, poetry, and drama from different time periods and cultures. Through reading literary works and writing essays, they will explain and support their analyses.
During this course students will develop skills in close reading, drawing conclusions from details, and identifying an author's techniques and their effects. They will also gain proficiency in presenting their interpretations and making persuasive arguments in writing.
The focus of this class is on fiction texts, including poetry and literature, allowing students to explore the art of literary composition and the use of various literary devices. The AP English Literature and Composition exam is often considered one of the more challenging AP exams. It requires students to analyze complex literary works, demonstrate advanced writing skills, and make well-supported interpretations. Success on the exam typically requires thorough preparation, strong reading comprehension, and critical thinking abilities.
In 2022, 77.9% of students scored 3 or higher on the AP English Literature exam. The test lasts for 3 hours and has two sections:
Journalist: Journalists are professionals who report news and events for newspapers, magazines, websites, or broadcast media. They research, interview, and write stories to keep the public informed about current events and issues.
Copywriter: Copywriters are responsible for creating written content, known as copy, for advertising and marketing purposes. They write persuasive and engaging copy for advertisements, brochures, websites, and other promotional materials.
Copy Editors: Copy editors review written content to ensure it is free of errors and is written in a clear and concise manner. They also ensure that the writing follows the publisher's style and editorial guidelines, maintaining consistency and accuracy.
Paralegal: Paralegals assist lawyers in legal research, drafting legal documents, and organizing case materials. They play a crucial role in supporting legal professionals and contribute to the efficient functioning of law firms and legal departments.
Announcers: Announcers work in radio or television programs, informing and entertaining the audience. They present news, weather updates, and special announcements. Some announcers also provide information at sporting events or performing arts shows, engaging and interacting with the audience.
