What is Home Schooling?

Are you considering homeschooling? Discover the benefits of personalized instruction, flexible schedules, and a safe learning environment that make it an excellent option for families seeking an alternative to traditional schooling.

Why Home School?

According to the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI), the number of homeschoolers in the United States has been steadily increasing over the past several years. In 2020, an estimated 4.5 million students were homeschooled, which represents about 8.9% of the school-aged population.

It is also found that homeschoolers consistently outperform their traditionally schooled peers on standardized tests by 15-30%. So it’s no wonder why more parents are considering alternative options to traditional schooling.

Home Schooling Methods

There are several different ways that homeschooling can be done. Here are just a few:

Informal learning, unschooling or natural learning
This type of schooling happens outside a set structure of learning and allows the student to learn from everyday, practical activities. Anything from planting a garden to baking a cake or even talking to a technician at work about the installation of new software can be considered informal learning.

Unit study
In this approach a variety of subjects like history, math, geography and so on are taught relating to one unit or concept. This approach is helpful when dealing with students of different academic abilities.

All-in-one curricula
In this approach parents buy a package that provides the same curricula and resources as students in a traditional school.

Autonomous learning
Like the name suggests, students study on their own in autonomous learning to develop more confidence and explore their interests.

Hybrid homeschooling or blended learning
Blended learning is a combination of offline (face-to-face, traditional learning) and online learning in a way that the one compliments the other.  Unlike online school, students still attend physical schools with a teacher present. However, face-to-face classroom practices are combined with computer-mediated activities regarding content and delivery.

Advantages Of Home School

Improved health
Homeschooling has been shown to have positive effects on students' social, emotional, and psychological development. A study published in the Journal of School Choice found that homeschoolers had higher levels of self-esteem, fewer behavioral problems, and a more positive attitude toward learning than traditionally schooled students.

Personalized Education
Homeschooling allows parents to provide a personalized education that is tailored to their child's learning style, interests, and needs. This can help students to learn more effectively and reach their full potential.

Flexibility
Homeschooling provides families with a flexible schedule that can be adapted to their individual needs. This can be especially beneficial for families who have children with medical needs, special needs, or unique interests that may not be accommodated by a traditional school.

Opportunities for Exploration
Homeschooling provides opportunities for students to explore their interests and pursue their passions in a way that may not be possible in a traditional school. See the success of our CGA students.
