John Morris, ONZM
Crimson Global Academy
John Morris, ONZM is a leader in New Zealand and global education. A visionary at the forefront of international academic trends and developments, John was headmaster of Auckland Grammar School - New Zealand’s premiere high performing state school - for almost 20 years before launching his own education consultancy, Morris Consulting.
During his time at Auckland Grammar, John grew the school’s enrollment to nearly 2,500 students and the teaching staff to 150. A visionary in curriculum development, he moved the school away from the local NCEA system to the globally recognised and respected Cambridge International Education (CIE) system intent on providing his students with the best educational opportunities the world had to offer.
John was also the founding Chairman of the Association of Cambridge schools in New Zealand until his resignation in 2012, and in this role promoted the CIE curriculum across the country. Until 2015, he acted as a major consultant to the University of Cambridge International Examinations organisation in UK, working in New Zealand, Asia and the Middle East.
He has also acted as an independent consultant to Crimson Education, a contractor to Educators’ Abroad and held senior governance roles on a variety of government, public and sporting boards.
John has also acted as Chair of the ACG Education Council, a Board Member of the Partnership Schools Authorisation Board and Education NZ, and Commissioner of the Tertiary Education Commission.
Prior to his 19-year tenure as principal of Auckland Grammar, John was the principal of Takapuna Grammar for four years. He holds a MA (Hons) in History and a BA (double major in History and Geography) from the University of Auckland.
A great believer in the value of sport, extracurricular fulfillment and team spirit, John is also a former association football goalkeeper who represented New Zealand at international level.
In 2012, John was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
