Home school

Want to home school?

Homeschooling or home schooling, also known as home education or elective home education, is the education of school-aged children at home or a variety of places other than a school. Usually a parent, guardian or tutor is the primary educator when a student is home schooled.

Based on each family and their preference, home schooling can take on many different forms. While some families prefer to keep a loose structure with no strict curriculum to adhere to, others tend to be more strict.

There are various reasons for home schooling as well. Some families might live too far away from the closest physical school to make a daily commute possible. In those circumstances, home schooling is the preferred choice. Others might choose to home school if they are travelling extensively. Yet others might choose to home school because of their beliefs or a child’s needs.

Many families choose to become part of home schooling cooperatives as well to encourage socializing and sharing of resources.

University admissions have changed a lot in the past couple of years. Now universities look for well-rounded students who demonstrate interests and skills outside the classroom as well. This is where extracurricular activities and leadership positions come into play. These activities help demonstrate who you are outside the classroom and in your community.
