Ability-Based Learning at CGA

The Right Level, The Right Pace, The Right Challenge - For Every Student.

One of the biggest reasons students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally at Crimson Global Academy (CGA) is that we don't place students in year levels based on their age. We place them where they learn best.

What Is Ability-Based Learning?

Traditional schools group students by birth year. Their subjects, assessments, and pace are predetermined by age, regardless of whether a student is ahead, behind, or outgrowing their curriculum.

What truly sets CGA apart is how we allow students to move at the pace that’s right for them. Students can accelerate where they are thriving, slow down when needed, and receive support through 1:1 and Asynchronous learning opportunities.

CGA groups students by skill level, ensuring the right challenge/support. A student might study: - Maths two levels above their age - English at their age level - Science higher/lower depending on level

Why Ability-Based Learning Matters

At CGA, over 40% of CGA students study at least one subject above their year level. Being able to study at the right level helps reduces stress and improves long-term academic outcomes.

Bored and Passionate Students Can Accelerate

High performers and those passionate about their subjects often feel unchallenged in age-based schools. At CGA, they can study subjects above their year level, learn alongside motivated peers, build confidence in their strengths, and strengthen their university admissions profile for further education.

Learners Can Progress at the Right Pace

Some students simply need more time or instruction to build foundational understanding - something traditional schools can be incredibly restrictive with. CGA allows students to, consolidate knowledge in subjects where they need guidance, access great support through 1:1 or small group classes, and move ahead only when they are ready.

With online learning at CGA, we meet learners where they are at, helping reduce concerns of missing school due to unhappiness, sickness, anxiety, travel etc.
