Beyond The Classroom
In a world where many students struggle to find their place, one CGA student has risen to the challenge of becoming the Head Student of Greenwich. Through hard work and dedication, she has been able to take advantage of the unique opportunities offered by CGA and develop into a leader with a vision for the future.
Leadership is an essential aspect of personal growth and development, particularly during one's academic journey. At CGA, students are encouraged to engage in various leadership opportunities to hone their skills and build their character.
It is with great pleasure and excitement that we congratulate full-time CGA student, Caitlin as the Head of Greenwich.
Let’s delve into Caitlin’s journey at CGA and the significance of her newly appointed role.
Caitlin first joined CGA as in February of 2021, and is based in Pretoria, South Africa. For her AS year she chose to study Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, History and English Literature. She also recently completed her Politics, Philosophy and Economics based Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and A-Level English Language course at CGA.
When asked why she believes she was chosen for this position, Caitlin explains her diverse experiences as both a part-time and full-time student at CGA. She also highlights her previous experience as a project manager for the former Student Council as evidence of her leadership skills.
Looking ahead at what Caitlin aims to achieve, she said:
In addition to working alongside my fellow Student Leaders to encourage a traditional sense of community between students and teachers at CGA, I wish to introduce new ways for us to embrace and celebrate our diverse cultures and heritage in a manner that is sensitive to the timetable constraints of both full-time and part-time students. During my time as a student at CGA, I have come to understand the distinctive opportunity we have to bridge communication between student leadership, our wonderful range of independent student initiatives, and members of staff or faculty. I hope that through projects such as the Greenwich Student Leadership team’s new Student Hub (a platform which synthesises the information available to students regarding extracurricular opportunities, academic resources and key points of contact) and our recent Greenwich Student-led Extracurricular Showcase Assembly, we will be able to enhance student life for everyone at CGA!
Aside from her role as Head of Greenwich, Caitlin is also proud of her new role as the President and Editor-in-Chief of the The CGA Press, the school’s official student newspaper.
Through this platform, I hope to showcase a larger number of student initiatives and clubs to the CGA student body and to provide students with opportunities to voice their opinions through the CGA Press’s new ‘Guest Column’, which will allow students who are not presently members of the club to write and publish articles on our website.
Throughout her time at CGA, Caitlin has learned valuable lessons about adapting to unexpected situations and the importance of reaching out to others for support. She hopes to use these lessons to inspire her fellow students to be more understanding and compassionate towards one another.
Whilst she has not yet decided on any particular career, her interests lie in fields such as Linguistics, Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, where she hopes to use her communication skills to bridge social, political, or economic barriers.
In her free time Caitlin continually develops her interests through the wide range of student-and-teacher-led extracurriculars offered at CGA, from Web Development and Psychology Club to Model United Nations. She also enjoys reading or writing short stories, and exploring her passion for baking and cooking.
In closing, Caitlin leaves us with a quote from J.R.R. Tolkien, reminding us that even the smallest person can change the course of the future.
I feel that this quote truly speaks to the unique opportunity that CGA offers us as students for shaping our collective global futures.
