CGA hosted a prizegiving ceremony to acknowledge and celebrate the academic, extra-curricular and leadership achievements of our students who are studying one or more subjects in February and May intakes in the 2021 academic year.

The event highlighted the amazing achievements of our students as well as the incredible growth of our online school in a short period of time. Students, parents and teachers all talked about the incredible drive and passion they see everyday within the CGA community.
Chair of the Board of CGA and Director of Crimson Education, Janine Manning, talked about how CGA students are preparing for a better future as global leaders.
It is inspirational to see our students, flourishing, thriving and achieving outcomes that can give us hope for a positive global future. CGA is an exemplar for the equation of teens times effort equaling a successful outcome. The world has plenty of smart people. What it lacks is good people who are prepared to fight for the right things in the right way. Being a good person in whatever career you choose, is the greatest success you can enjoy.
Executive Principal John Morris talked about how CGA has innovated to accomodate growing student demands in the short time that we have been in existence. We have added a Pre-International GCSE curriculum to cater to younger students as well as an Extended Project Qualification for our A Level students. He went on to thank CGA’s world-class teachers for the students’ excellent exam results.
While innovation is important, students come to CGA to learn things they would not otherwise learn. So they come to see things in a different way. Education should be about continuity as well as change. Our aim at CGA is to give all students a rounded, substantive education based on subject knowledge which will allow them to engage purposefully and intelligently with the world.
Principal Mark Phillips delivered the closing remarks and highlighted the importance of a well-rounded education for all students. He also called out the excellent extracurricular resources and academic counselling services that CGA students have access to through the school.
Online teaching has been experienced by every secondary school student in the world over the last 18 months. However, in talking to colleagues, interviewing prospective teachers and listening to media commentary, I have realized that not everybody has the same level of excellent experiences as our students at CGA. And the defining quality of our school’s success is the unfaltering enthusiasm and commitment of our staff who always want to be better today than they were yesterday.
As CGA grows, so does the list of awardees who have achieved excellence in both academic and extracurricular fields. Our awards in this round of prizegiving were divided into several categories.
The Dux Award is a premier award given to the student with the highest overall ranking in academic achievement. The 2021 CGA Dux Award was given to Yuko Nagakura outstanding grades in all disciplines and for contributing to the CGA community as Head Prefect in 2021.
High Distinction Awards are made to students who have consistently performed at the highest level in a minimum of three subjects.
The top students studying an IG dominant course were Caitlin Cameron and Kowshi Obli Raj.
For AS/A2 dominant courses, the top students were Gemma Bishop, Yuko Nagakura and Jade Sceats.
CGA Associate Principal, Dr Andrew Daniel, presented the Extra-Curricular Awards. These are given to students who have demonstrated consistent, active engagement and made a positive contribution to extra-curricular activities through their reliability, determination, initiative, leadership and service to others.
William Gao was awarded for his contribution as founding member to CGA Model UN.
Anastasia Schroeder was awarded for winning 8 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal at the South African Championships of Performing Arts. She delighted our audience with her performance of “Taylor the Latte Boy”.
Our audiences were also treated to a special dance performance by Caleb Hartnell.
Student Leadership Awards were given to acknowledge the contribution of students who have performed major leadership roles in the Aoraki school.
The winners were CGA Head Student Yuko Nagakura;
Aoraki Head Student Chaytan Hall;
and Aoraki Deputy Head Student Kowshi Obli Raj.
CGA Director of Studies Mark Vella presented the Top In Subject Awards to the first-ranked student in each Pre-IG and International GCSE subject based on weighted average marks in term examinations.
