What began as a bold idea in the halls of Stanford and Oxford is now a thriving reality. Today, Crimson Global Academy (CGA) celebrates its 6th anniversary as a trailblazer in global online education. From navigating pioneering legislation for online private schools to building a community of 2,500+ students across 80+ countries, it’s been a remarkable journey.
At CGA, campus isn’t a physical postcode; it is a digital space where a student in Sydney can debate Economics with peers in Dubai and Paris. Our students are the living pulse of this innovation.
For David in Shanghai, the best part of the journey is the global network:
“My favourite part of this journey is that I make a lot of new friends all over the world. CGA makes it really easy to connect and chat with your classmate. Even though you’re in different places speaking different languages.”
Yoyo, a top-ranked competitive tennis player in Canada, chose CGA because she is defined by her ability rather than her age.
From Eileen in Shenzhen, growing more confident in her online learning, to Xheherazade (New Zealand), Jenson (Australia), and Arielle (Australia), flourishing in the Student Leadership team, our students are shaping the school’s culture. Mia in Auckland also finds the model essential for her dual life as a student and entrepreneur:
“My favourite part… has been building connections with so many amazing people while also being able to push myself academically and running my own business”
A common myth is that online school means isolation, but at CGA, the reality is the opposite. We prioritise the human connection, ensuring students build deep, lasting friendships through shared experiences.
Real-World Connections: Students like Senna, Renna, and Kinlee highlight that the journey isn’t just digital. They shared how school camps and meetups organised by CGA allowed them to meet in person and feel closer to their classmates, turning digital avatars into lifelong friends.
Whether it’s sharing the tennis court with founder Dr Jamie Beaton like Timmy, or collaborating in student-led clubs, the social bond is our strongest asset.
CGA's success is built on a model of live teaching rather than pre-recorded lectures. This human-centric approach is why our faculty find the environment so rewarding.
Mr Michael Caley, Dean of Hawking House, reflects on the reward of seeing students from vastly different backgrounds grow in trust and take academic risks together.
For Mr Chris Lemmons, the energy of the school flows from a shared desire to enjoy learning, allowing him to teach World Cultures to students who actually live out the curriculum.
The spirit of CGA is perhaps best captured by the Māori proverb shared by Mr Nick Salmon: "Waiho i te toipoto, kaua i te toiroa" - Let us keep close together, not far apart.
For Jessica Silcock, Chief Brand and Community Officer, the journey began ten years ago when she joined an early-stage startup to help students access top universities:
"Education changed my life... to design top virtual schooling options like Crimson Global Academy... that open doors for young people... has made this milestone so meaningful."
This culture of flexibility extends to our staff, like Marketing Manager Natasha Dalziel, who balances her professional career with national hockey tournaments:
“CGA has always allowed me to balance it all and keep making time for my passion. Time to train, travel & compete”.
This sentiment is echoed by our CEO, Penelope Barton, and Founder, Dr Jamie Beaton. They transitioned from pioneering legislation for online private schools in New Zealand to achieving full WASC accreditation with a maximum six-year term, a feat for such a young institution.
As we celebrate six years, our vision remains crystal clear. We are not just preparing students for university; we are preparing them to lead in a complex world. As Dr Jamie Beaton notes, we will continue to innovate with AI and adaptive learning, but always with exceptional human teachers at the core.
To our students, teachers, and staff: Penn Bloodh Lowen! (Happy Birthday). Thank you for being part of a community where you are limited only by your own ambition.
Here is to many more years of pushing boundaries together.
