Course Overview

The course features a relevant, updated and engaging selection of texts ranging from British heritage to modern international. The texts studied are engaging, suitable for all students, and that they include a diverse range of writers. The texts include poetry and prose as well as literary non-fiction.

Skills You'll Learn

  • Read a wide range of texts fluently and with good understanding
  • Read critically and use knowledge gained from wide reading to inform and improve their own writing
  • Write effectively and coherently using Standard English appropriately
  • Use grammar correctly, punctuate and spell accurately
  • Acquire and apply a wide vocabulary alongside knowledge and understanding of grammatical terminology, and linguistic conventions for reading, writing and spoken language
  • Listen to and understand spoken language, and use spoken Standard English effectively. Spoken language will be reported as a separate grade on the student’s certificate.

The Pearson Edexcel International GCSE in English Language (Specification A) comprises one mandatory component (1) and a choice of an additional examined (2) or non-examined assessment (3). In addition, students may be entered for an optional spoken language endorsement

  • Component 2: Poetry and Prose Texts and Imaginative Writing
