A LEVEL CHEMISTRY
Course Overview
The International A Level Chemistry course is spread out over two years with the possibility for an Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level or Advanced (A) Level qualification.
Students will study Organic Chemistry; Energetics, Group Chemistry, Halogenoalkanes & Alcohols; Transition Metals & Organic Nitrogen Chemistry; and Practical Skills.
Students will learn to:
- Essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of the subject and how they relate to each other
- A deep appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of scientific methods
- Competence and confidence in a variety of practical, mathematical and problem-solving skills
- Their interest in and enthusiasm for the subject, including developing an interest in further study and careers associated with the subject.
Exam Overview
The Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level in Chemistry qualification consists of six externally-examined units. The AS Level consists of the three units and the A Level consists of three additional IA2 units. The AS qualification may be awarded as a discrete qualification or may contribute 50 per cent towards the International A Level qualification.
For both qualifications a minimum of 20% of the marks across the papers will be awarded for mathematics at Level 2 or above.

Format
Eexternal assessment offered three times a year for each of the six units.
