What is Advanced Placement Physics 1?
Advanced Placement Physics 1 is a rigorous, college-level course offered in US high schools. Administered by the College Board, AP Physics 1 is for students aiming to strengthen their college applications since the SAT tests have been discontinued. The online AP Physics 1 course is structured to be self-study material with a standardized exam offered once a year. Success in AP Physics 1 can lead to college credit at universities across the United States and Canada.
TYPICAL AGE RANGE
AP Physics courses are offered all throughout high school and as such can be taken by students aged 15-18 through self-study or proper classes.
ENROLLMENT OPTIONS
The AP Physics courses can be taken as a part-time option along with other subjects. Students can also take a combination of levels at CGA.
EXAM
All exams are externally offered during a two-week period in May and can be taken at designated centers. 3 hour paper Section 1 | Multiple Choice | 50 questions Section 2 | Free Response | 5 questions
Basis of what you will learn in AP Physics 1
Learn about the foundational principles of physics as you explore Newtonian mechanics; work, energy, and power; mechanical waves and sound; and introductory, simple circuits. You will interpret and describe representations and models; use mathematics to solve science problems; formulate a scientific question or hypothesis; design an experiment to answer a scientific question or to test a hypothesis; analyze data and evaluate evidence; work with scientific explanations and theories; and make connections.
