What is Advanced Placement (AP) Biology?
Advanced Placement (AP) Biology is rigorous, college-level courses and assessments offered in US high schools. Administered by the College Board, they have now replaced the SAT Subject Tests for college applications. Doing well in AP Biology can translate to college credit in US and Canadian universities.
AP Biology is structured to be self-study material with a standardized exam offered once a year.
TYPICAL AGE RANGE
AP Biology courses are offered all throughout high school and as such can be taken by students aged 15-18 through self-study or proper classes.
ENROLLMENT OPTIONS
Students can study AP Biology online with live interactive classes either full-time or part-time. Students also have the option to take AP courses in conjunction with A Level subjects.
EXAM
The AP Biology exam covers the topics outlined in the course description including: cell structure and function, ecology, gene expression and regulation, and the chemistry of life. This AP exam consists of one multiple choice section and a free response section over the duration of three hours. 3 hours and 15 minutes paper Section 1 | Multiple Choice | 60 questions Section 2 | Free Response | 7 questions
What will you learn in AP Biology?
Students taking the AP Biology Course will cover course topics such as cell structure and function, ecology, gene expression and regulation, the chemistry of life, and natural selection. In this AP subject, students will be required to test a prediction or Biology theory, collect and analyze data, interpret data to draw conclusions, and support a scientific claim with evidence.
